Ledger’s Unfinished Business

Ledger’s Unfinished Business

It was sad writing my last blog about the unfortunate and unexpected tragedy of the young Australian actor, health ledger overdosing leading to his death in January. I walk with a heavy heart knowing one of my favorite actors (Candy, 10 Things I hate about you, and an already favorite film of mine The Dark Knight, where Ledger plays the role of Batman’s nemesis the Joker due out this summer) will not be making anymore films.

The mysterious death of the actor left questions unanswered to the public due to his always busy schedule and upcoming films that he would be staring in. Ledger was fresh on the publics mind with the new Batman film approaching, which the actor had just finished filming weeks before his death, his face as the role of the joker was the main marketing tool for the film in posters and advertisements. It was actually only a week before his death when I saw the poster at the movies of Ledger as the Joker with the quote, “Why so serious?” I immediately went to the cinemas customer service and asked to put my name in for the poster when the campaign finished. I regret now, that I no longer have dibs on the poster, pity.

The actor also left a string of unfinished business behind. He had the starring role in the film due out 2009 called “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” directed by Terry Gilliam. Production of the film was suspended due to Ledger’s death but reportedly the role of “Tony” for the american-fanacy film will be continued by Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell become multiple incarnations of his character transformed in the film.

On top of these films having budgets of about $30 million each, and a laundry list of A list actors such as Christina Bale, Johnny Depp, Collin Farrel, and Jude Law, it is said that these two films featuring the last couple weeks of Ledgers life will be automatic blockbusters.
